Doing More with Less: How Salesforce Foundations Empowers Nimble Nonprofit Teams

Nonprofit organizations often face the challenge of “doing more with less,” grappling with limited time, budget, or staff while striving to achieve their mission. We recently presented a webinar, “Doing More with Less: How Salesforce Foundations Empowers Nimble Nonprofit Teams,” where we showcased how Salesforce Foundations can provide practical solutions for these common pain points.

Introducing Salesforce Foundations: Free Access to Powerful Tools

Salesforce Foundations is a free add-on built into your existing Salesforce CRM, available for Enterprise Edition and higher. A core component of Foundations is Data Cloud, which acts as the central repository for information, enabling agents and other services to extract and process data for actionable insights. Importantly, Data Cloud can leverage information from both your Salesforce instance and external platforms, meaning you don’t have to migrate all your existing data to Salesforce to use these new tools.

While Foundations offers a comprehensive suite including Sales, Service, Commerce, and Data functionalities, we focused primarily on two transformative components: Agentforce and Marketing Cloud Growth Edition.

Unleashing Potential with Agentforce Agents

An Agentforce Agent is defined as an autonomous AI application designed to provide specialized, continuous support to both employees and customers. These agents can operate 24/7, understanding and responding to inquiries without human intervention. The promise of Agentforce is to create a workforce with “no limits” by enabling organizations to:

  • Augment employees: Scale your team with a virtual workforce, freeing human staff to concentrate on more critical, mission-driven activities.
  • Improve stakeholder experiences: Offer intelligent, 24/7 support and personalize every interaction.
  • Boost organizational efficiency: Integrate disconnected data and processes, allowing for smarter operations and customization of agents for specific tasks.

The free aspect of Salesforce Foundations for Agentforce comes with a consumption-based model. Organizations receive 100,000 Flex Credits included. Simple, low-level tasks consume fewer credits, while more complex tasks require more. This approach allows organizations to implement an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) or proof-of-concept to understand their consumption patterns before incurring additional costs. Further, all data utilized by Agentforce within Salesforce remains secure, protected by the Salesforce Trust Layer, ensuring data is not sent externally and can be configured to meet specific data governance policies.

Streamlining Engagement with Marketing Cloud Growth

Marketing Cloud Growth is another significant inclusion in Salesforce Foundations, offering a hard limit of 2,000 monthly email sends. This is a game-changer for smaller organizations, providing access to sophisticated marketing tools without the typical cost, especially for those currently using disparate, unintegrated services.

Marketing Cloud Growth directly addresses the common issue of siloed CRM and marketing data, ensuring all marketing assets and donor information reside within a single, unified system. Key features include:

  • A centralized content workspace to store and organize various marketing assets like emails, landing pages, and forms, with flexible folder structures.
  • An intuitive drag-and-drop email builder that includes components for rich customization and even HTML blocks for advanced design.
  • Robust campaign flows for scheduling emails and creating highly targeted segments. It can ingest data from numerous third-party platforms such as Google Sheets, Survey Monkey, and LinkedIn, ensuring comprehensive data for segmentation and personalized communications via merge fields.
  • The capability to build complex multi-channel journeys, resembling Salesforce’s Flow Builder, and integrate SMS and WhatsApp.

The synergy between Agentforce and Marketing Cloud Growth is powerful; for example, a development director could use an agent to quickly view a donor’s full engagement history including newsletter responses, segmentation lists, and volunteer records, all through a single search.

Real-World Applications: AI in Action

The demo highlighted three use cases:

  • For Fundraising: A major gift officer (Monica) can obtain a summary of a donor account—including opportunities, gift commitments, and activities—in mere seconds, a task that previously took 15-20 minutes per donor. The agent can even suggest next steps or draft emails.
  • For Grants Management: A grants manager (Jordan) can generate executive summaries for dozens of grant applications with a single click, automating a previously time-consuming process.
  • For Service and Support: A case manager (Alice) can quickly get an AI-generated summary of email communications within a case, providing immediate context to offer quality support and draft replies.
